Interested in plastic surgery statistics?  Itís always a good idea to get a sense of how many people are undergoing plastic surgery, or certain plastic surgery procedures.  Besides providing this information, plastic surgery statistics can offer some insight into the current patterns and trends in the cosmetic plastic surgery industry. 

The following is some 2004 plastic surgery statistics highlights courtesy of the American Society of Plastic Surgeons.  Overall, there were 9,210,627 cosmetic procedures performed in 2004, a 5% increase from 2003, and 40% increase from 2002.  Of that total amount of procedures in 2004, 1,740,236 were surgical procedures and 7,470,391 were non-surgical procedures.  Notable plastic surgery statistics of 2004 include:

The top choices for plastic surgery procedures were liposuction (324,891 procedures), rhinoplasty (305,475), breast augmentation (264,041), blepharoplasty (233,334), and facelift (114,279).  The most popular minimally-invasive cosmetic procedures were Botox (2,992,602), chemical peels (1,090, 523), laser treatment of leg veins (858,867), laser hair removal (573,970), and schlerotherapy (544,898). 

In regards to the plastic surgery procedures that have been showing greater popularity over the last two years (2002 to 2004), plastic surgery statistics show that among surgical cosmetic procedures, buttock lifts (152% increase), upper arm lift (139%), lower body lift (96%), thigh lift (92%), and hair transplantation (69%) have shown the greatest growth.  Among non-surgical cosmetic procedures, Botox injections (166% increase), chemical peels (18%), and collagen injections (18%) have shown the most growth.
