One of the most wonderful experiences that physicians have in their practice is not how many wealthy patients they have provided service to. It’s not even how much money they have accumulated as they do their job to the community. It is the sheer blissful experience that comes from their acts of service to those who they know could never repay them.

Here’s one group of lucky surgeons who are about to experience the same thing.

Project Change Bermuda is a team of surgeons and support staff who are about to travel to Tanzania in July to take part in one of the most rewarding experiences of their lives. The group is set to reconstruct faces on some of the most disadvantaged children on earth.

The medical group will be traveling with a small team to the East African country, which borders Kenya and Rwanda. They will stay there for 13 days and will attempt to help at least 50 children who have cleft lips and palates, burns, had and leg disfigurations and other chronic wounds.

Project Change Bermuda is going to be headed by reconstructive surgeon Christopher Johnson along with dentist Debra Tuzo. Dr. Johnson is holding a successful private practice and has helped a number of patients at the King Edward VII Memorial Hospital. He expressed that he is very much excited about the trip and hopes to help as many as kids as he can.

It has already been about three years that Project Change Bermuda existed. It is basically a medical mission group that provides free reconstructive surgery for people living in impoverished conditions.

The trip to Tanzania is essentially organized through the request of Dr. Tuzo, who is Bermuda’s representative for a U.S.-based non-profit health organization called Ahead. She has been going to Tanzania for several years now and is very glad that Dr. Johnson’s team is going to join them in the trip.

The group is currently in the process of raising money for the trip.
