  Bet we don’t know that body fat makes excellent soft tissue filler material.  Else, we really have no idea how can an unwanted fat be this useful.    

  Fat Injection procedure is known to diminish frown lines, crow's feet and smile lines (nasolabial folds).  It also provides definition to areas like the cheeks and chin and can be used to fill out depressed scarred areas on any part of the body.
   
  The procedure is natural and generally non-allergenic.  And because fat is from the patient’s own body, no pre-testing is required and the fat cannot be rejected

  The process, called 'autologous fat transplantation', works by transferring fat from one part of the body to another, most commonly that of recontouring the face.

  The technique consists of extracting fat cells from the donor site – for example: abdomen, buttocks or thighs – using a small needle attached to a syringe.  The excess fluids in the fat are removed through a special process and then re-injected with another needle in multiple thin strands into the treatment area.

  However, not every area of the body is appropriate for fat injection.  For one, injected fat is proven to 'settle' longest when it is administered in relatively stationary areas such as the cheeks.  On the other hand, injecting fat into the breast, for example, is strongly discouraged since it makes cancer detection via mammography more difficult.

  Fat collected during a liposuction procedure can also be utilized.  That is why fat Injection is cost effective if combined with liposuction.
   
  Intravenous (IV) fluids are introduced into the donor site to facilitate fat collection while both the donor site and the treatment site are treated with local anesthesia.  Due to fat absorption in the weeks after treatment, "overfilling" is a necessary corrective step.   
   
  Fat Injection is an outpatient procedure that generally takes under an hour with little or no downtime.   For longest-lasting effect, a patient generally receives three to four treatments over a six-month period.  Injections may last from several months -- the longevity of results can vary significantly from patient to patient, however, the procedure is not permanent, and may require an effective maintenance program.    

  Overall, there is minimal discomfort with some swelling and bruising – usually lasting about 48 hours after the procedure, but can be minimized with proper medication.  As necessary, sun is avoided until the condition subsides.

  Those considering Fat Injection should note that the procedure is a good alternative if he or she is allergic to bovine collagen.
