There is a growing concern among orthopedics and podiatrists regarding a scary trend involving women getting their feet lopped off for the purpose of being able to wear Jimmy Choos shoes.
Women consider wearing high heels a form of sophistication and class. They also seem to believe that they become more attractive to the opposite sex with shoes like that compared to wearing flats.
A New York Times article has this to say about the issue:
With vanity always in fashion and shoes reaching iconic cultural status, women are having parts of their toes lopped off to fit into the latest Manolo Blahniks or Jimmy Choos. Cheerful how-to stories about these operations have appeared in women's magazines and major newspapers and on television news programs. But the stories rarely note the perils of the procedures. For the sake of better ''toe cleavage,'' as it is known to the fashion-conscious, women are risking permanent disability, according to many orthopedists and podiatrists.
There are times when you just have to accept the fact that mutilating your toes in order for your feet to fit into the latest pair of posh shoes wouldn’t do the trick. Do your feet have to be that small in order to look attractive? Getting permanent disability by undergoing through an unsafe procedure just to impress some guys who have foot fetish doesn’t make a lot of sense.
