Spas and beauty parlors manned by those who might be improperly trained to do certain cosmetic surgery procedures at low costs are everywhere. You can see them in your local neighborhood attracting a few to several clients. More often than not, these non-physicians perform procedures such as laser hair removal, Botox injections, microdermabrasion, and chemical peels that are supposed to be handled by board-certified facial surgeons.
This alarming national trend of non-physicians playing the role of skilled facial surgeons has come to the attention of American Society of Dermatologic Surgery. DNA India has this to say:
According to the ASDS, 41 percent of its members say they have seen an increase in patients seeking second treatments to repair damage from botched procedures performed by improperly trained individuals.
Dr. Renata Hirsch, a dermatologic surgeon and ASDS spokesperson says that pseudo medi-spas are the prime movers of this undesirable trend. Hirsch has seen a lot of awful things this particular thing has brought about. For instance, people of color suffer loss of pigmentation after receiving treatment from those who don’t know how to use certain laser treatments. This may not be as awful as what happened to that Brazilian woman but this is something that’s equally damaging to the person concerned.
Before another tragedy transpires, it would be best that patients make the right choices. The price of beauty is already high; don’t make it higher by putting your health and your life on the line. Don’t let an incompetent facial aesthetician ruin your looks because of cheaper rates. As Dr. Hirsch puts it, “This is just one of those times when you just don’t want to get a bargain.”
