The American Society of Aesthetic Plastic Surgeons (ASAPS) has finally released its stats on the most popular plastic surgery procedures in 2006. Not surprisingly, the rankings seem to have not changed at all from last year. Still, liposuction got the most support from plastic surgery patients.
United Press International delivers the news.
Liposuction is the top U.S. surgical cosmetic procedure -- although breast enlargement leads for women -- and Botox tops non-surgical procedures. Cosmetic surgical and nonsurgical procedures inched up 1 percent in the United States from 2005 to 2006, with a total of 11.5 million procedures done last year, according to the American Society for Aesthetic Plastic Surgery (ASAPS).
"The FDA approval of silicone breast implants in late 2006 seems to have made an impact, as silicone implants are up 18 percent from 2005," said ASAPS President James Stuzin. "Furthermore, as the safety and efficacy of the nonsurgical procedures on the market continue to improve, the numbers of those procedures performed by board-certified plastic surgeons continues to rise year after year."
Among the most popular procedures following liposuction and breast augmentation are eyelid surgery, abdominoplasty or tummy tuck and breast reduction. Rhinoplasty and facelift used to belong to the top five but didn’t make it this time around perhaps because of the increased fame that body-contouring procedures are enjoying right now such as tummy tuck and microliposuction.
