Liposuction has come a long way already from its humbles roots. Though it did not bag the top spot in the most number of procedures performed in 2006, it still remains to be the most popular procedures of all time, what with the great number of people from all walks of life trying to tone their bodies and get rid of excess fat.
Aside from tumescent liposuction and lipodissolve – two new approached to fat removal which proved to sell like hotcakes, another approach has been developed to address stubborn excess fat.
This new approach to liposuction seeks to address both the unwanted fat and the overlying skin. The new technique, which is called Skin Activating Liposuction, is developed and practiced by Dr. Lloyd Krieger, founder and Medical Director of Rodeo Drive Plastic Surgery.
The Skin Activating Lipo aims to take care of the things that are somewhat neglected by the traditional form of liposuction. Traditional liposuction removes fat, leaving the surrounding skin loose, and thus, minimizing the desired effect of the procedure.
This new technique aims to take care of the things that traditional liposuction fails to accomplish especially on the aspect of loose skin. The Skin Activating Lipo is designed to activate the skin to help tighten the area where excess fat is removed. This would lead to a tighter, leaner-looking result. During the liposuction procedure, the plastic surgeon intentionally irritates the inner side of the skin causing it to tighten as it heals. The skin tightening and the removal of fat is what makes this technique unique from all others, according to Dr. Krieger.
The procedure can be used where liposuction is done, from the chin, to the love handles, to the thighs.
