Skin aging is obviously associated with susceptibility to damage and reduced healing factor. The low levels of elasticity inevitably cause sagging in skin, along with stymied blood flow and lower gland activity. Short of the fountain of youth, the restless, let alone the aging, have with open arms turned to cosmetic surgeons for the knife.

Deep inside, everybody has been reluctant to get those red badges of courage though. When the following non-surgical tools were introduced, the multitudes jumped the gun in their latest bid to defy time.

    Thermage
A fresh approach to treat loose skin is known as Thermage. Clinically proven to tighten or lift the skin, the procedure applies heat from a radio frequency (RF) device. This patented technology, called , does not require incisions whatsoever. Yet it reduces wrinkles, compels healthier collagen and renews facial contours, regardless of skin type. The use of anesthesia is not required for this revolutionary procedure.

It is understood however that the procedure is far from being an absolutely painless experience. Each contact with the device causes a succinct heating sensation through the tissue. A numbing cream applied on the target areas usually offsets such experience. All in all, the procedure takes around a few minutes to an hour usually.

The upside with this procedure if anything is that it requires no downtime from normal activities, not even aftercare recommendations. Results last from six months until two years. Unlike facelift surgery of convention, which is priced between $7,000 and $15,000, Thermage relatively costs lower, around $2,000.

    BOTOX® Cosmetic Injections
In highest probability, raving word-of-mouth made one receive BOTOX® cosmetic injections. As a matter of fact, investing with aesthetics escalated to an all-time high with this tremendously famous procedure. 3.3 million and counting have received the procedure in 2005 alone. In time, the said procedure has been named America’s most favorite for four years on end, according to the American Society for Aesthetic Plastic Surgery (ASAPS).

Its impact on pop culture is a foregone conclusion, considering the trailblazing convenience promoted by this cosmetic procedure. For that, BOTOX® Cosmetic injections may live up to its hype after all.

It is true that by 10 minutes, the procedure is done. No recovery time is necessary, with variable results lasting up to 4 months. Above all, BOTOX® Cosmetic injections are minimally invasive.

BOTOX® Cosmetic is a purified protein derived from the Clostridium botulinum bacterium. Low dosage of this substance is administered locally. Specific targets are the frown lines between the brows, whether severe or not. But then, the patient can still make facial expressions such as frowning, but without the wrinkles between the brows.

The injections are viable for medically qualified individuals 18 to 65 years of age.

    Microdermabrasion and Chemical Peel
These procedures are perhaps the most accessible, as these are easily served in day spas and medical spas. One such cosmetic procedure, microdermabrasion, basically removes the stratum cornea or the outermost surface of the skin.

Done by light abrasion, there are different methods to this, including mechanical abrasion from jets of zinc or aluminum oxide crystals, or a roughened surface. Along the process, a wand attached with a vacuum suctions off any particle removed.

Microdermabrasion is primarily recommended to remove sun-damaged skin, lessen scars and dark spots. Painless and requiring no anesthesia, the procedure is also effective in treating fine wrinkles.

Instead of an abrasive instrument, chemical peels treat wrinkles by applying a chemical solution to the skin. The solutions, usually containing alpha-hydroxy acids, cause the skin to eventually peel off and unravel a smoother, less wrinkled appearance.
