While the most common reason people decide to get plastic surgery is to improve a part of their body, or change something they don't like, some take plastic surgery to the next level. What follows are some of the most interesting, bizarre, and extreme examples of plastic surgery by individuals who have non-traditional surgery goals.

Animal

Cat Man (Dennis Abner)
Inspired by a dream telling him to “follow the ways of the tiger” CatMan began his transformation at the age of 23. Over the years he has spent more than $150,000 and 2,000 hours of tattooing and surgery to transform him into what he is today.

Beginning with tattooed eyes, CatMan (now his legal name) has since modified his upper lip, received tiger teeth caps, green contact lenses, clipped ears, a dozen six-inch long fiberglass whiskers permanently implanted in his face, and his whole body tattooed in stripes.

Lizard Man (Erik Sprague)

Demonstrating ultimate dedication to his craft, the Lizard Man, as he likes to be known, began his transformation over a decade ago as part of an ongoing body modification project.

With more than 650 hours of tattooing, and an estimated $250,000 worth of modifications.The lizard man has had his ears and septum pierced and stretched. Additionally, he has had five Teflon horns subdermally implanted above each of my eyes to form horned ridges. Four of his teeth have been filed into sharp fangs and his tongue has been bifurcated. (he was the first to ever do it.)

Cindy Jackson, "Barbie"

Cindy Jackson grew up in a small Ohio farming community, never having the physical beauty she desired, Cindy has made it her life's goal to replicate in herself what she sees as the ultimate symbol of female perfection: Barbie. According to her web site:

"When I was six years old my parents bought me a Barbie doll, which served to fuel my escapist fantasies. In my imagination I dreamed of a happy and glamorous life for my doll. Through Barbie I could glimpse an alternative destiny."

in 1988 she was left with an inheritance and began her journey from homely young woman to a barbie look alike.

Cindy holds the world record for having more cosmetic surgeries than anyone else in the world. She has undergone more than 30 procedures including: One full face-lift, three "mini" face-lifts, three eyelid surgeries, one upper lip lift, liposuction on her knees, thighs, abdomen, waist, and jaw-line; two nose operations, breast augmentation and many more. Tim Whitfield-Lynn "Miles Kendall"

Friend of, and inspired by Cindy Jackson, Tim Whitfield-Lynn embarked on tens of thousands of dollars worth of plastic surgery including a nose job, eyebrow lifted, lips reshaped, dental surgeries and teeth capped, cheek implants, laser skin peels, eye shaping, jaw bone sculpting- and wears bright blue contact lenses.

Tim indeed became Ken to Cindy's Barbie. He also legally changed his name to Miles Kendall; "Miles", he says, because he "looks miles better" and "Kendall for Ken-doll." Mile's Web site

Gender

Allanah Starr is a pre-operative transsexual. She looks like a female in every way, but has not yet had gender reassignment surgery. She is an excellent example of someone who has taken a goal and used extensive plastic surgery to completely changer her body.

"Surgery is kind of an obsession," she says. "I’m totally addicted to altering my appearance."

Allanah has had more than 30 surgeries in the past 6 years and claims to have spent more than $100,000 on her myriad surgeries, which include having her eyebrows lifted, her eyes reshaped, a mini face-lift, Botox injections, her ears pinned back, her eyelids done, cheek implants, lips augmented with silicone, her chin resculpted, two sets of breast implants, three nose jobs, her laugh line filled in with silicone, liposuction on her neck, her Adam's apple filed down, and silicone pumped into her hips and butt multiple times. Lando Thomas

Lando Thomas is a female to male transsexual, meaning he was born a girl but transitioned to become male later in life. Lando is remarkable in that he looks 100% male and has lived in "stealth." From Lando's blog:

"I would say that one of the most unique aspects of my life is that I was born female, but decided to live as a man from age 18 on. I became a man in 1985 and have been on testosterone for over 20 years now."

Sexuality

Maxi Mounds

Maxi Mounds is an American nude model, stripper and pornographic actress from Long Island, New York. Mounds is known for her extremely large breast implants. Mounds' implants are polypropylene string breast implants, which irritate the breast tissue, causing them to grow continuously as they fill with fluid.

Mounds' breasts each weigh twenty pounds. Mounds is comparatively tall for a pornographic entertainer, standing at over 6 feet tall. She is pictured left holding a certificate declaring her as the woman with the "Worlds Largest Augmented Breasts."

"Leen"

Leen, as he is referred to in his BMEZINE interview is what is called a Voluntary Amputee. He has dreamed of and attained amputation of perfectly healthy parts of his body. From the interview:

Outwardly Leen is a “normal” guy — other than his limp, without seeing his feet you’d never know of his interests. He’s a straight (and married) forty-two year old construction worker in Pretoria, South Africa, where his hobbies include motorsports, nature, working out, and reading — and still slowly working toward his dream of a LAK (“left above the knee”) amputation. -bmezine.co

Most who desire unnecessary amputation are "Apotemnophiles." Essentially, they have a paraphilia of the stigmatic/eligibilic type in which sexuerotic arousal and facilitation or attainment of orgasm and dependent upon oneself being an amputee.

Geek

Ear Sculpting

Pointed ears, made famous by Star Trek's Mr. Spock are becoming an increasingly popular, albeit strange, plastic surgery procedure. Ear sculpting normally takes place under local anesthesia. The surgeon utilizes cartilage already present in the ear to extend the upper part of the ear. The ears must remain bandaged for a week and sutures are removed after about a fortnight. After around a month, the swelling should have subsided and the final results of the surgery can be seen. According to those who have undergone the procedure, one of the main benefits is increased hearing ability, making listening to music more pleasurable. Additionally, some note the desire for "sexy elf ears" as the primary motivation.
